Texture is the driving force behind my distinctive collage painting style, where layered                                                                                           materials and paint combine to create depth, movement and visual interest. I am                                                                                                     fascinated by the way different materials, marks and surfaces can interact within a                                                                                                 painting, allowing an image to emerge gradually through layers rather than simply being                                                                                       reproduced on the canvas.

                                                                                 In my collage paintings, shapes may overlap, fragment, dissolve or reappear through                                                                                             textured surfaces. I build and reconstruct these surfaces using layers of materials and                                                                                             paint, allowing parts of the underlying image to remain visible while others become o                                                                                             obscured or transformed. Texture becomes more than a surface effect; it helps me express                                                                                   atmosphere, movement and emotion and gives each painting its own physical character.

                                                                                 My inspiration comes primarily from landscape, flowers and still life. Landscapes allow me to explore the changing character of the natural environment and the memories and impressions that places leave behind. Flowers offer an extraordinary diversity of shape, movement and detail, while still life allows me to bring natural forms and familiar objects together in unexpected arrangements. Through collage, I can interpret these subjects more freely, moving between observation and abstraction while retaining something recognisable from the world around me.

My artistic practice has developed over many years through painting, drawing, collage and mixed media. I studied in Sydney and Los Angeles, where I developed my painting and drawing skills and worked under the mentorship of Impressionist artist Arthur Sarkissian. After returning to Sydney, I further developed my collage and acrylic painting techniques under Angelica Erbsland and later studied pen and ink drawing at the Royal Art Society of New South Wales School of Art under Dennis Clark. My work has been exhibited in Australia and internationally and has received awards and commendations. Since 2016, teaching painting through classes, private tuition and art demonstrations has also become an important part of my artistic life.

I believe texture has the power to enrich the way we experience a painting. It encourages us not only to look at an image, but to explore its layers, surfaces and hidden details. Through my collage paintings, I invite viewers into a world where familiar landscapes, flowers and everyday objects can be rediscovered through texture—sometimes revealed, sometimes concealed, and always open to individual interpretation.
